The good ship Petrel has been retrieved from the fresh waters of Lake Union and she sits now in Tallowahs home port of Degnen Bay, Gabriola Island. Her saviour and good friend of mine, Adam, is swapping out the old Perkins with a functioning one and Petrel will then continue on to her new home port on Cortes Island.
We were six days return trip from Gabriola Island to Ballard... half of which Tallowah had Petrel under tow. I turn a 20" wheel powered by the 87 HP Nissan.... towing was easy breezy. We even had a fair SE pushing us out of Puget Sound so Tallowah flew her big jib with Petrel flying the staysail.
We towed on a 150' line and side tied when maneuvering. We hit Pt Townsend as fog lifted and sunset lit up the scene. It was ethereal.
The trip was excellent. Tallowah's first of the summer.... even though it is fall now! Two days before departure I made and installed the new spreaders and got some varnish on the sprit and re rigged that as well. Never got the cap rails back on though....It was a huge push. Just what I... and she, needed. Good friends, good vessels... and yeah, good rum too.
I added a couple photos in the gallery....Petrel is white- Tallowah gray. Enjoy!
