I'm interested in feedback from the folks actually sailing instead of building. The cabin top beams are waiting to be cut in but a few questions remain that affect layout
.
Hatches- Although there's no questioning the beauty of the typical CG teak hathes I'm leaning towards aluminum or stainless. Todd has given me his blessing as he agrees with the maintainence issue. I'm curious what others have experienced with the teak hatches good or bad? The companionway will remain teak but the mid-cabin skylight and forward hatch are in question.
Traveler- The CG prefered location for the traveler is in the cockpit, usually aft of the helm. This makes sense as it allows for end boom sheeting. Because my 38' is extended 2', 40' OD, the cabin and cockpit are shifted aft while the rig remains at it's standard 38' configuration. This leaves the boom end forward of the helm and eliminates locating the traveler aft of the helm. Options include the bridgedeck or the cabin top or...? I estimate that with the cabin top location I could make it to the 3/4 point of the boom with one of the sheet connections. Some drawbacks include possibly increasing the size of the boom, requiring more rigging and hardware and leaving the the control away from the helm. The bidgedeck would allow end of boom attachment, but I'm not sure I like the idea of all that gear at that location. Any opinions?
I'll get some pics up soon, but I think I've said that before.
